About PDP

The Gap Between
Knowing and Doing.

"The gap between ignorance and knowledge is easier to cross than the gap between knowing and doing."

People Driven Performance launched in 2022 through the coming together of two unique and complementary minds. With 9 out of 10 companies failing to execute strategy, global engagement below 15%, and 40% of new leaders failing — it was time for a different approach.

Over the last four years, PDP has partnered with major clients in oil and gas, mining, and heavy infrastructure — helping them stay ahead of the curve by thriving through their most valuable asset: their people. We build your unique bridge from research to results, delivering practical performance improvement from the classroom to the frontline.

What makes PDP different

We work from classroom to frontline — not just the boardroom
We observe real work, not just interview about it
We measure behavioural shift, not just training completion
We coach executives, not just supervisors
We embed routines: Performance Hubs, Visual Boards, Leadership Rhythms, Cadences, Accountability Systems
We deliver results for 2/3 the price of international competitors

"We are not a standard training provider — we are a lecturer, teacher, coach and mentor on a performance journey with our clients."

The Safety Performance Transformation System — 3-Phase Model

Phase 01

Diagnostic

Field Observation + Leadership Interviews

We start where the work happens. Our consultants conduct direct field observations and structured leadership interviews to surface the real drivers of performance and risk — not just what the data shows, but what the culture reveals.

Phase 02

Leadership Alignment

Role Clarity Reset

Strong systems don't prevent drift — leadership behaviour does. We align your executive and supervisory leaders around clear expectations, shared accountability, and the behaviours that drive disciplined execution.

Phase 03

Supervisor Execution

Coaching Uplift

The frontline is where performance is won or lost. We coach supervisors to lead with consistency — delivering high-quality prestarts, toolbox talks, and daily interactions that embed safety and discipline as natural parts of how work gets done.

COACHING FOR SAFETY PERFORMANCE

The Challenge

INPEX's Ichthys LNG facility — Australia's largest and most complex LNG project — was operating under intense production pressure. Like many Tier 1 LNG operations, the facility faced a persistent challenge: strong safety systems existed on paper, but sustaining disciplined leadership behaviour under operational pressure remained elusive. Engagement scores were moderate, prestart and toolbox quality was inconsistent across shifts, and the gap between management intent and frontline execution was widening.

The Solution

PDP was engaged to design and deliver the Coaching for Safety Performance programme — a comprehensive, multi-phase intervention targeting over 400 leaders from VP level through to frontline supervisors. The programme was built on PDP's proprietary Safety Performance Transformation System, which embeds operating discipline into leadership rhythms rather than relying on compliance-driven approaches.

Phase 1 involved deep diagnostic work: direct field observation, structured leadership interviews, and cultural assessment. This surfaced the real behavioural drivers of risk — not just the lagging indicators. Phase 2 focused on leadership alignment, resetting role clarity from executive to supervisor level. Phase 3 drove supervisor execution uplift — coaching frontline supervisors to deliver consistently high-quality prestarts, toolbox talks, and daily safety interactions.

NOBLE SAFETY PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

The Challenge

Noble Drilling, a leading offshore drilling contractor operating in Australian waters, faced a critical safety performance challenge. With an LTIFR of 1.45 and a TRIFR trending in the wrong direction, leadership recognised that their existing safety programs were not translating into sustained behavioural change at the frontline. The high-pressure, high-consequence environment of offshore drilling demanded a fundamentally different approach — one that would build genuine leadership capability, not just compliance.

The Solution

The PDP team designed and delivered the Noble Safety Performance Program — a targeted intervention for 80+ leaders across the organisation. The programme applied PDP's proven methodology: beginning with diagnostic field observation to understand the real drivers of risk, then working through leadership alignment and supervisor execution uplift.

A key focus was the quality of daily safety interactions — prestarts, toolbox talks, and shift handovers. We coached leaders to transform these from compliance rituals into genuine engagement opportunities. The programme also addressed the psychological safety dimension, creating an environment where frontline workers felt empowered to raise concerns without fear of retribution.

GLOBAL FRONTLINE LEADERSHIP & MOS PROGRAMME

The Challenge

Thiess, one of the world's largest mining services companies, faced a challenge common to global operations: inconsistency. With operations spanning multiple continents and thousands of frontline workers, the gap between high-performing and underperforming sites was significant. Leadership capability varied widely, and there was no unified operating system that defined "the Thiess Way" of managing operations.

The Solution

PDP was engaged for two complementary programmes. The first was a Global Frontline Leadership Programme with Train the Trainer capability — building internal facilitation so that leadership development could be sustained and scaled without ongoing external dependency.

The second, and more transformative, was the design and global rollout of "Managing Operations @ Thiess" (MOT) — a comprehensive Management Operating System that defined the Thiess Way of running operations. MOT established clear standards for planning, execution, review, and improvement across all sites, embedding accountability and consistency into daily operational rhythms.

Shell Malaysia

TOOLBOX TOPGUN PROGRAMME

The Challenge

Shell Malaysia's operations involved a complex mix of Shell employees and contractor supervisors, creating significant inconsistency in the quality of daily safety interactions. Toolbox talks and prestarts — the most frequent touchpoints between supervisors and frontline workers — varied enormously in quality, engagement, and effectiveness. Many were treated as compliance exercises rather than genuine safety conversations.

The Solution

Our team developed the Toolbox Topgun programme — a highly practical, skills-based intensive that trained 80 Shell and contractor supervisors to deliver engaging, thought-provoking toolbox talks and prestarts. The programme went beyond content delivery, focusing on facilitation skills, psychological safety, and the ability to create genuine two-way conversations about risk.

Critically, the programme was designed to be self-perpetuating: graduates became internal coaches, creating a cascade effect that extended the programme's reach far beyond the initial cohort. This "train the trainer" architecture meant Shell could sustain and grow the capability without ongoing external facilitation.

Annual Fatalities Achieved Zero
SAFETY LEADERSHIP & ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMME

The Challenge

Glencore's Mopani Copper operations in Zambia and Koniambo Nickel in New Caledonia were facing a safety crisis. With more than 10 fatalities per year across these operations, the human cost was devastating and the reputational and operational consequences were severe. Traditional safety programs had failed to create the sustained behavioural change needed to prevent fatalities.

The Solution

Our team designed and delivered a comprehensive Safety Leadership and Engagement programme targeting Superintendent level and above — the critical tier of leadership that sets the tone for frontline safety culture. The programme engaged 80+ leaders across both operations, focusing on the behaviours, conversations, and accountability systems that prevent fatalities.

The approach was grounded in the understanding that fatalities are rarely caused by a single failure — they are the result of accumulated cultural drift, normalised risk, and leadership disengagement. We worked to reverse this drift by building genuine safety leadership capability at every level of the organisation.
